Enamel Pins - Neptune's Neighbor

Randomly browsing on etsy has yet again revealed some products that I HAD to have!
Neptune's Neighbor is a design-based series of products from Karina Thome. Amongst the collection is a series of Stanley Kubrick inspired enamel pins, obviously I felt inclined to buy a couple!

There are a LOT of A Clockwork Orange badges on etsy, but during one of my very regular 'What new Kubrick stuff has appeared on etsy?' searches, this one truly stood out! The vibrant colour choices really caught my attention & it's such a iconic image from the film!
The badge is called simply 'Ultra Violence' & measures about 1.5 inches across.

For those who know me, it's common knowledge that 2001: A Space Odyssey is definitely my second favourite Kubrick film. So, when I found the '2001 Space in Outer Space' pin in the Neptune's Neighbor store as well, it was a necessary addition to my purchase! A visualisation of what is probably one of my absolute favourite scenes in 2001! This badge measures 1.25 inches.

Neptune's Neighbor also have a Lolita pin available! I was very tempted to buy it as well, but I was just a little short on cash at the time. This is definitely a future purchase!

These enamel pins are fantastic & ridiculously cheap! Only $8 USD per pin & the shipping is very reasonable(was only $4 to ship two pins to Australia!). In the grand scheme of enamel pins, these are beautifully made & truly worth the price! My photos really don't do them justice! I'm eager to see what designs Karina Thome adds to the collection in the future!

You can view Karina Thomes work on her website & find her Neptune's Neighbour series in her etsy store. You can also follow her on facebook!

Clockwork Orange - Custom Minifigs

Finally ordered myself a Clockwork Orange minifigure from Custom Minifigs! This minifig is part of their 'Oh, the horror!' Custom Minifigure series 3. I just had to own it & the rest of the series is pretty damn tempting too(not to mention the previous series!).

The details on this minifig are rendered beautifully! He even comes with a little hat, walking stick & a little carton of milk!
The folks at Custom Minifigs put so much work into their minifigs it's amazing! Everything about this minifig is executed perfectly!

They have a couple of other Kubrick inspired items available as well! I'm in the process of acquiring a HAL 9000 tile & I'll definitely be back for Jack Torrence as well! I hope to see more Kubrick inspiration in their work in the future!
Their packaging is fun too! Like a little matchbox for my minifig! The simple nature of the packaging helped keep the shipping down, which is always appreciated! In fact it was an entirely problem free buying experience!

I'm super happy to finally have one of these in my collection! For now it takes it's place in my cabinet, but I've ordered a display box for it & hope to expand the collection a little, so it's current home is temporary.

My photos really don't do this minifig justice(in fact, my photos suck!), but don't let my inability to take a decent photo deter you! This isn't the first A Clockwork Orange Lego custom I've seen & it won't be the last, but this is definitely a superior example! Custom Minifigs do amazing work & they're worth every penny!

Shorts & Cinema

So, my trip to see ACO at Event Cinemas was fantastic. The quality of the image was beautiful, quality of sound was fantastic too(though we could tragically hear explosions from another movie playing in an adjacent cinema). It was completely worth the $10 to see. Personally, I'd love to see Event Cinemas show some other Kubrick films. In particular, I'd LOVE to see 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big-screen. Only time will tell what films they'll bring us in the future though.

I also acquired, what are probably the coolest shorts ever, recently. They're by a brand called Arancia Meccanica(can we guess what they focus on?), a seriously fantastic brand, hope to acquire more of their products in the future. I bought them from a seller called 'Marys Clothing' on eBay.

The fact their board-shorts might persuade me to actually go swimming this summer too, that's always a plus. Though even if I don't, I'm pretty sure I'll be wearing these religiously. I also love the colours(though these shorts are available in at least one other colour combination that I could find), can't go wrong with black, white & purple.
While I'm writing, I'd like to apologise for the lack of new posts lately. There's only so much stuff I can buy & stuff worth writing about. I have got two blog posts I'm working on, one is quite depressing & I keep putting it off, the other has been delayed due to a product arriving damaged. I have however, found some new items recently, hopefully I'll have myself a little ACO shopping binge in the near future & give you all something new to read!

The Simpsons Kubrick-fied or 'Kubrick in Yellow'

Well, as it's been mostly blogs about recent acquisitions(& old ones) recently, I thought I'd change it up a little today. I'm a big fan of pop culture, absolutely LOVE seeing parodies of things I love, in other things I love. So today, I bring you 'Kubrick in The Simpsons'.
Now, there was MANY MANY reference to his films & this blog could get a little long, but I'm going to try & limit myself as best as I can.
So enjoy, Kubrick in yellow.
A Clockwork Orange
Treehouse of Horror III - Episode 64

Dog of Death - Episode 54

Duffless - Episode 75

Homer the Smithers - Episode 145

The Simpsons writers do wonderful work, there's been dozens of Stanley Kubrick references throughout the years(amongst hundreds of other classic films), so here's a few of my favourites.
I'd just like to point out, this is only a small collection of the Stanley Kubrick references in The Simpsons, I've added a bunch of links at the bottom of the post for more information. Space Odyssey & The Shining is particular have MANY other references throughout the series.

Full Metal Jacket
Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song - Episode 100

Bart the General - Episode 5

2001: A Space Odyssey
Lisa's Pony - Episode 43

Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes? - Episode 59

The Shining
