Clockwork Orange Kitty - Plasticgod & Ultraviolence Qee - Toy2R Version

As per usual I'm falling behind on my blogging again, so today I have two new items for you.

About a year ago(possibly longer, my perception of time isn't great), I stumbled across this blog entry: Sanrios 50th Anniversary Party Which was the moment I became aware of Plasticgod(or rather, became aware of his art, I knew he made toys).
Since reading that blog I regularly went hunting for his art & managed to find one of his MUCH older Alex Delarge prints on eBay about 6months ago(from back in his Plasticfucker days). I had pretty much lost all hope of finding the Clockwork Kitty, but thanks to habit, I was hunting again recently & learned that Plasticgod had made a pinterest! One specifically for his Hello Kitty work in fact. Turned out, he somehow still had prints to sell(they are limited to 35), so I contacted him, paid & now have a second print in my collection(& still a lack of photography skills to go with them)!

The next item is one I'd been seeking for at least three years. There are three sets of Ultraviolence Qees by Kozik & thanks to my friend JazzyDan(from Fugi.me I have my first set! The Toy2R set(or simply 'black set'). SO happy about these! I attempted to buy one of the other sets this year, but it arrived with sun damage & I had to return them, it's nice to finally succeed with a purchase of these... now I just have to hunt down the other two sets.

So yeah, new things & more coming. So glad to have finally hunted down some items that I had struggled to find.

BIG Catch-Up!

Well, as you may have noticed, I've been a bit useless with my blogging lately. It's nothing new, I'm lazy. There's even a chance I pre-warned you all in previous entries about this bad habit of mine! I've decided it's finally time to catch-up & show you all my recent acquisitions, so bare with me!

First & foremost, the toy that took me longer to acquire then anything else EVER, the Crockman Hommage Statue.
I first stumbled across this epic piece of resin about 2.5years ago. In that time period, nothing went right. The original website that stocked them, didn't ship to Aus, so I found another site, but they had run out of stock. That's around the time I gave up on the idea, but then a friend suggested M-World Service. They found my toy within a matter of hours! Cost me a little extra, but it was worth every penny!
By far one of my all time favourite ACO acquisitions, though tragically I don't have the space to display it at the moment. Hopefully, I'll have a new cabinet soon to put him in.

There are other versions of this, which I WOULD like to seek out one day, but for now the OG version makes me happy. Here are the others:

There I was, doing my daily eBay search for ACO items & I stumbled across a mobile phone cover. Pretty retro, absolutely obsolete these days, but as I had no intention of opening the packaging, it was destined to become part of my collection! Was also useful to know Lucastar had a eBay store! While I was at it, I ordered a 2nd ACO phone charm(I may potentially do a contest in the future & toss that in!). The phone cover is by a brand called Lex Lutor, who don't seem to exist anymore. Tragically I'm pretty sure I also ordered the last one Lucastar had in stock(so you're all out of luck!). Nice bit of randomness to add to my stuff though.
Mobile Accessories - Lucastar

As always, Frank Kozik has continued to produce items that I simply MUST have in my collection. I blogged about his mini busts a few months ago(Mini Orange Clear Resin Lugwig Van Busts), he then released another, the 'Milk Plus' version. Of course I needed it, so I got my money together & thankfully was able to acquire one.

Mini Ludwig Bust - Milk Plus - Frank Kozik

When I first started this blog(The Woes Of Collecting or 'Why I Created This Blog' ), I was driven to do so because I had learned about some recent releases, which I had missed the opportunity to buy. Specifically, a toy called 'Nadsat Boy' by Kenth. I'm still seeking that piece of vinyl awesomeness, however Kenth recently released another ACO inspired toy. This time, in resin.
There was a lottery for this toy, I feel incredibly lucky to have won the opportunity to purchase one. It's tiny & delicate & articulated(even it's head swivels!)!

Kenth Toys(Komori Kentaro) - Basic Wars - Nadsat Boy

Ok, so that's basically all the new toys & stuff. Now, the artwork.... or at least the artwork I recently hung(i'm a bit slack with hanging art).

Stuff I've recently hung(some new acquisitions, some old):

James Flames - You Are Invited

James Flames does epic work & I'm so glad to finally have this poster up(it had been sitting in a tube for over a year). The photo looks a little weird, as it's hanging on an angled wall(nice use of space I thought!). Took two tries to get it to stay up, but I got there in the end!

Dolicia

Picked this up on etsy(again, at least a year ago). It's an original by a woman called 'Dolicia'. Tragically, I can't find any additional info about her & her etsy store seems to be gone now. The moment I saw this painting I wanted it & Dolicia was kind enough to hold it for me. I'm incredibly happy to finally have it on my walls(the other painting is a gilcee print from R.S.Connett for anyone wondering).

Wellbound Productions- Tim Allen - Clockwork Ted
I recently went to the Brisbane Alternative Expo(b'day outing with my Dad) & the very first thing I found, was a ACO item. The guys from Wellbound Productions do awesome work, but of course, I went with Clockwork Ted. A beautifully messy, yet effective piece of art. I got to have a chat with the guys & Tim Allen signed the print for me. I'm very much looking forward to the next Expo(and hopefully one or two conventions this year too!). A great little b'day bonus for myself & thankfully, I happened to have a frame kicking around that fit it.

For now, that's it on the art front. I have a few other pieces kicking around in tubes(even have a new piece on it's way), but I'm all out of frames/mylar sleeves/ or any other 'hanging' solutions that will fit my remaining pieces. I'm working on the problem.

To finish up, here's some updated shots of my cabinet. There's a handful of things missing, as I currently can't fit them in(nice to have my stuff back from the museum, but problematic thanks to buying so much new stuff last year). I'm pretty happy with how much I've managed to squeeze in there though!

There's a couple of other things I thought about sharing, but I have counterparts for them arriving soon, so I shall share the rest in future blog entries. For now, be jealous of all my new epicness!

Les Chieurs - Pooping Stars - Clockwork Orange

Stumbled across this rather unusual little figure a couple of months ago. Part of a highly amusing selection of figures by Les Chieurs from his Pooping Star series. The Clockwork Orange 'Pooping Star'

"Pooping stars is a collection of ironic figures that caricature famous people with their trousers round their ankles and their bottoms bare! In only a few years, this Catalan tradition, called caganers, has become trendy representing World leaders in a “politically incorrect” position. A symbol of luck and prosperity, the caganers put everyone in their place and remind us that even famous people take a crap… an unusual and funny gift that you won’t buy your grand-mother!"

Essentially, the idea of his figures is 'Everybody poops' including pop culture characters & social figures such as the Queen & the Pope! So greatly amusing, yet so true.
So glad I managed to find a little space for him in my cabinet. Particularly because I didn't take into consideration it's 4.5inches tall. For some reason I had it in my head he'd be half the size! Though I'm quite impressed by it's 'presence' in my cabinet.

One of my favourite ACO finds of the year, all thanks to attempting to hunt down another toy on Google image. After 5hours of hunting that day, I'd found quite a few things I didn't know existed. This is the first of more to come.

What Do You Collect & Collectomania

A little over a year ago, I received a newsletter from the Queensland Museum. It mentioned they were giving people a chance to put up a photo of their collections, on a page called 'What Do You Collect?'

Being proud of my collection & eager to share it with other collectors, I quickly took a photo(one of many crappy photos I'll be sharing today. As always, I apologise for my inability to take a decent photo) & uploaded it.

The next thing I know, The Sunday Mail is contacting me about an interview for an article. The also sent over a photographer, which was a new experience for me.

While waiting for the article to come out, I was contacted by Queensland Museum personally, to ask if I'd be interested in lending some of my collection for a exhibit they were working on. The idea of not having a portion of my collectables, for a long period of time, almost made me say no(& I am missing them dreadfully lately). Eventually however, I decided the opportunity was worth embracing.
After three visits from museum employees to take photos, measurements & choose which items they might consider using(they took 18, though only displayed about half of them), I was left to wait. A few months later, I received my invite to the opening of the exhibit.

Collectomania opened on the 28th of March & will end on the 31st of December. Entry is free.
I think the variety of collections is fascinating. Some are basically artwork(a model of Bilbo Baggins hobbit house, painted mini-figures, street art stickers etc.), other were simply 'found objects'. Plenty of antiques, music, brand collectors, amongst more.

Bundaberg Rum items lent by Bundaberg Rum Showcase

Rocking Horses lent by Robin Bailey

Pepsi Items lent by Bradley Worling

Salesmen Samples lent by Queensland Antique and Collectables Society Inc.

Diorama lent by The Military Workshop

Prosthetic Legs from 'Spare Parts' lent by Priscilla Sutton

I have visited the exhibit four times so far(it's nice to check on my things now & then) & intend to visit many more times in the coming months. My collection is part of the 'Against The Grain' section. Found next to a jar of toenails & saved chewing gum pieces(of all the odd things to hoard).

So basically, thanks to my obsession with browsing the internet & signing up for newsletters, I now have stuff temporarily displayed in a museum. Nice to have such an opportunity in my life & all because I sit here for about 14hours a day.

New Art & Another Toy I'll Never Own

I received a new piece of art in the post a couple of days ago, a sketch card by Fred Hembeck. A great artist, hilarious work. I was surprised when I found he was selling art on eBay, but ecstatic when I realised he'd sketched Alex DeLarge. I had to outbid a couple of people, as a result I paid a little more then I generally would for something so small. It's incredible in real life however & I'm glad I paid the price.

An additional thought, Frank Kozik has created a glow in the dark A Clockwork Carrot exclusive for San Diego Comic Con. Limited to only 50 pieces. It's unlikely I'll ever own one of these(this information did NOT improve my mood today). One day, probably a decade from now, I might actually make it to SDCC & pick up a few exclusives for myself.

This awesome new toy will be available from the 3dRetro booth(booth 5051) during the week. They'll have quite a few SDCC exclusives available at their booth(including the epic Evel Fett: Boba edition from Retro Outlaw). Be sure to stop by & spend copious amounts of money if you're one of those lucky ones heading to SDCC this year.

Shoework Orange or 'I finally found one!'

Woke up to find a package at my door today. I now officially own my very own Michael Lau Mr Shoe Shoework Orange sample. I've spent years hunting for one. During one of my many random google searches for ACO items recently, I stumbled across one on the kidrobot forums. For once, I was in luck & it was still available(I also messaged the seller two days before someone else enquired, my timing was perfect!).

Another piece of luck, the seller usually doesn't ship outside of Europe, but as I was quite willing to pay the extra shipping costs, Mr Shoe is now mine. It's insane how happy I am about this toy.

Everything about this toy just puts a smile on my face. The kind of 'raw' style, the highly amusing feet, the adorable mini shoebox & who doesn't love a toy with a hat?

I really love the detail on this piece, the little eyeball on the back is a lovely touch. Of the course the beautiful combination of orange, black & white is always appealing. This is of course, the one toy, that has made me realize how desperately I need to buy a bigger cabinet. In time, I hope to display his box beside or behind him, but for now I can only fit Mr Shoe on my shallow shelves.

This is my very first Michael Lau piece, there's a few others I'm seeking, but this little(or rather, 'big' as he stands about 6" with his hat on) guy I think will remain one of my favourite pieces for many years to come.
